Moonlight Limpia & Visualization

Updated: Aug 14, 2019

This beautiful moonlight limpia (purification) ritual and visualization is something that you can do by yourself or with your entire family, including children so that they begin to learn spiritual self-care from an early age. It can be followed by a light meal and conversation about what they experienced, how they felt before and after -- it's a good opportunity to set aside cell phones to focus on family.

I prefer to be outside where I can see grandmother moon, especially during the full moon when it is particularly powerful and bright and our prayers are stronger. Although it is better to perform the moonlight cleansing meditation/visualization outdoors, don't worry if you have to do it indoors due to weather -- it still works!

Instructions:

Stand or sit outdoors so that the moonlight covers your body from head to toe.

Imagine that grandmother moon is tilting her celestial gourd and is pouring down its silvery cleansing moonlight over you... see and feel that high spiritual light flowing through the top of your head, through you and around you, removing all inner and outer obstacles to having a clear mind, loving relationships, good health, and stable prosperity.

You can offer up prayers for healing, for employment, for releasing what is no longer needed in your life to make way for the good. Feel the light of the grandmother moon severing connections that prevent you from moving forward with your dreams and goals. Use your own wording, and if children are with you, invite them to join in and share their needs too. Express your gratitude for blessings received and those yet to come.

This is also a good time to mentally, or out loud, ask that clear guidance be given to you in a way that you will understand, regarding personal, work, family, or spiritual matters. Afterwards sit quietly with a receptive and listening mind-heart.

If you wish you can bring the ritual to a more formal close by lighting a votive candle or a 7-day devotional candle, to hold the prayerful intention that wisdom, peace, healing, kindness, and justice for all of our communities prevail. As you light the candle imagine, see, and feel it’s beautiful light expanding to bless all people, all beings, all of creation, in all directions of time and space.

You can also do this as a family ritual... modeling for your children to think beyond themselves and care for the larger world family; especially the sacred elements (water, air, fire, earth), and our animal relations who live in and on the earth.

May our prayers manifest with ease and grace for benefit of Mother Earth and may we be good ancestors. For All Our Relations.
